Now more than ever, the Lundquist College of Business is investing heavily in the career outcomes of our students. Knowledge acquisition is fundamental, and being career-ready and able to harness that education is just as essential.
Thanks to a generous gift from Lundquist College alumnus Jay Mohr ’76 and his wife Kim, our career services offerings are more robust than ever as we enter the 2018-19 academic year.
Lundquist College of Business students have a world of employment opportunity available to them, and we are committed to aiding students with all their career-related goals—from career development, to successful search, to advanced certifications, and alumni and employer engagement.
We know students’ first days on campus to “You’re hired!” can be a complicated process, and we’re meeting that need with targeted services for each student that walks through our doors.
Services including career events, job and internship postings, job shadow days, on-campus interviews and info sessions, virtual recruiting, mentoring, student club engagements, and other networking opportunities are expanded and even more accessible to our students.
This direction is in line with both my goals and those of UO President Michael Schill. We aim to produce well-educated, career-ready graduates in four years—many with a full year of professional experience under their belts.
Now strategically located on the first floor of the Lillis Business Complex, our redesigned career services experience places Mohr Career Services in a prominent location in our building, showcasing our upfront commitment to ensuring students have the skills, knowledge, and support they need to land jobs.
We have also reexamined and realigned staff efforts to best serve the modern student. Staff at Mohr Career Services are now arranged into three teams to help students navigate their own trail to a long-term, successful career. The new teams are career exploration, career strategy, and employer and alumni engagement.
The career exploration team helps students take action by facilitating structured opportunities for students to connect with alumni and other business professionals in an effort to “try-on” various careers and find a lasting match.
The career strategy team helps students refine and execute a successful job search by integrating career development into the student experience through the curriculum, partnerships with student groups, and one-on-one coaching.
Finally, the employer and alumni engagement team delivers a variety of customized engagements with alumni and employer partners through on-campus recruitment, networking events, company site visits, and student club activities, while harnessing the power of the University of Oregon alumni network.

We have also invested in our Portland-based career services presence. As assistant director of employer and alumni engagement, Shannon Aniciete will initiate fresh connections with Portland-area employers while maintaining and strengthening existing relationships in an effort to grow the number and variety of employers hiring Lundquist College students. She comes to the college from Portland State University career services. Prior to that, she worked in the legal field, training and managing staff, coordinating marketing and outreach, and developing programs. She joins the employer and alumni engagement team.
Lastly, what would all these great enhancements be without great direction? We believe we have secured a visionary leader for the Mohr Career Services team. Gene Rhee joins us from VMock, Inc. an artificial intelligence firm focused on career development. Previous to that, Rhee led the career services team at the Argyros School of Business at Chapman University and served in several positions at McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, including senior assistant director for its MBA Career Center. He told us he is particularly drawn to the challenge of shaping career services for the long term as we graduate the next generation of business and civic leaders.
